Maybe you know I am quite a keen photographer since 1989. Because I’m a good, not selfish man, I share my knowledge and skills with people, who want to use them. So, about three years ago, still in Poland, I offered a course of photography for young people from a parish. My goal was to help them to take nice, interesting photos in ordinary day-life situations like birthdays, home parties or holidays. It was very simple course, giving just basic knowledge and skills. So, I led the course of photography for about twelve people. There was a woman older than me, who took part in the course as well. Interestingly, at the beginning she didn’t have a camera; she bought a used one after a few weeks. Now, three years later, when I look at her internet gallery, I’m amazingly impressed and I envy such good talent, just a little. She has become a great photographer. She may be called "a worker of late hours".

When we hear today’s gospel, we might think this is not OK. Of course, we have to agree with the logic argument of the landowner: "Did we not agree on one denarius?". But inside we are sure, that the workers, who toiled all day, should earn more than these, who worked one hour. We can think exactly the same about heaven: this is not fair, that people who sinned all through life might have the same opportunity to enter into the heavenly kingdom like us, who try to avoid sin and live good lives. This is a misunderstanding. If we think like this, it means that we don’t understand sin. It means that we treat sin like a fine, interesting, pleasant thing, forbidden for us because we are Christians. But the real nature of sin is the destruction of a person.

The main reason why the landowner in the gospel did, what he did, is his compassion for the workers and their lot. God has compassion for us, all of us, even those, about whom we might think they are not worthy of compassion.

This gospel leads us to discover the truth, that God never writes us off, however we can still be far away from him. This gospel gives us the courage that as long we live we still have a chance. Because love never dies.
